BARBADIANS HAVE AN opportunity to help the Challenor Creative Arts Training Centre raise some much needed funds.
They can participate in the wave which is sweeping the world – the Ice Bucket Challenge- and be daring for a worthwhile cause.
Soca artist Basil Yarde Jr. has been the main person behind the local effort, taking to social media and encouraging friends and fellow artists to get them on board in this effort.
To highlight the plight of the Challenor Centre which caters to approximately 80 students at its facility in the St Thomas highlands, Yarde hosted a Press conference to outline why corporate and individual citizens need to give their support, money, time and expertise.
He was joined by the centre’s chief executive officer Sharon Taitt, the deputy chair of its board parliamentarian James Paul and staff member Sheldene Applewhaite.
In an effort to put his mouth where his interest is, Yarde has been encouraging people and companies to participate in the challenge. It’s simply $10 for those who participate and for those who pledge but don’t carry through, its $50.
All the funds will go to the Centre.
The facility which is celebrating its 50th anniversary has helped many differently abled students who would otherwise have been overlooked and ignored. (ES)
