British oil tanker engineer found dead

The body of a British engineer who was working on board a visiting oil tanker was taken out of the water near the jetty of theĀ Berinda Cox Market in Oistins, Christ Church, yesterday.

Police reported that Benjamin Burgess, 23, was pulled from the water by Barbados Coast Guard personnel. He was a crew memberĀ of the oil tanker Lucy PG,Ā which was moored nearby.Ā 

Inspector Carollyn Blackman-Alleyne of the Oistins Police Station said they received the report around 9:12 a.m.

ā€œPolice responded and on arrival, there was a large crowd. The Coast Guard then recovered the body of a CaucasianĀ male,ā€ she said.

At around theĀ same time, Blackman-Alleyne said they also received a missing personā€™s report from theĀ Lucy PG.Ā The captain of the vessel subsequently identified Burgess.

Police are appealing to anyone who can provide any further information on the incident to contact Oistins station at 418-2612, Police Emergency 211, Crime Stoppers 1800-8477 (TIPS) or any police station.Ā (CA)
