MORE WOMEN are being diagnosed with breast cancer every week in Barbados.
Medical coordinator of the Breast Screening Programme of the Barbados Cancer Society, Dr Shirley Jhagroo, told the SUNDAY SUN in an interview that there was an average of two to three new cases each week, compared to one five years ago.
She said while she did not have recent statistics on breast cancer deaths, she noted that there was an average of about 52 a year, up to 2010.
“There has definitely been an increase in the number of people being diagnosed and new cases,” she said, noting that in 2012, there were about ten to 12 new cases a month.
