All’s not well in Central

Crime fighting is proving to be just as risky inside Central Police Station as on the streets. Officers stationed there have to work under conditions that include missing toilets, exposed pipes, holes in the ceiling and a dusty environment.

The Bridgetown station, which spans from Coleridge Street in the front to Tudor Street in the back, is the workplace for more than 100 police officers and once housed police headquarters and the main investigative arm, the Criminal Investigation Division.

Headquarters shifted to the nearby Roebuck Street while detectives probing major crimes are now assigned to District “A” Police Station in Station Hill, St Michael; Glebe Police Station, St George and Harbour Road, St Michael.

As the Royal Barbados Police Force is placing exciting recruitment advertisements on social media and television seeking a few good men and women, some of the officers at Central are growing tired of working under less than ideal conditions. (CA)
