A NEW STUDENT council at the Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School was inducted during a ceremony at the Ephesus SDA Church today.

Its president is Chelsea Jordan and Jordan Harris will serves as vice-president for 2014.

Since the establishment of the council in 2012, the body has refurbished a bathroom and acquired new chairs and microphones for the school.

UNICEF adolescent specialist Elaine King reminded the students that under the convention of the rights of the child, they should be afforded the rights to participation and respectful engagement.

“The convention says that all girls and boys have the right to express their views and opinions on all matters that affect them and to have those views and opinions taken into account.  The student council provides a very structured way for this engagement,” King said. (LK)
