Ambassador Obadele Thompson was saluted by his alma mater Harrison College (HC) yesterday.

Shortly after showing he can still run by cruising to victory in a 50-metre celebrity race, which also featured another HC Olympian Henrico Atkins and CARICOM Ambassador David Comissiong, Thompson cut the ribbon in front the Joe Frank Parris Pavilion to unveil the plaque for the Obadele Thompson Sports Complex at the historic Crumpton Street, St Michael institution.

In her brief address, Harrison College principal Juanita Wade said it was a pleasure “to recognise and honour Obadele Thompson for his outstanding contribution to College’s athletics and to athletics across the globe” on behalf of the school.

“Too often honours are bestowed upon deserving individuals when they are not around to appreciate [them]. This will not be the case today,” Wade said.

The new Kolij Foundation conceptualised yesterday’s Kolij Olympics event, which attracted scores of past and present Harrisonians. (EZS)
