Raymon Reifer scored an unbeaten 60 off 42 balls, steadying the ship after both openers William Perkins and Dilshan Munaweera fell off the first and last balls of the sixth over.
Earlier, newcomer Munaweera raced to 50 off 26 balls, stroking five fours and three sixes in an aggressive opening partnership of 54 with Perkins (10). Jonathan Carter added 20.
Parvinder Awana took three for 46 for Kings XI Punjab.
