The “unofficial” groundsman of Dover, Vincent “Jammy” Lashley, is hopping mad over the destruction which footballers have wreaked on his pride and joy, the cricket pitch at the Intermediate cricket venue in Christ Church.
With pain in his voice Lashley, whose name is attached to the Dover pavilion for his outstanding service to the club, pointed out the damage which was done on Sunday night.
“We played here on Saturday and afterwards I had these grounds looking like Lord’s.
“Look at what they have done to this ground after playing four football games on Sunday night in driving rain. We are supposed to practice this evening [yesterday] and we have a game here on Saturday and we are presently leading the Intermediate,” he said.
“It would take a pneumatic roller to fix this pitch and the outfield,” said Lashley.
The Dover facility is being used by Paradise Masters for the third year in succession, with permission being granted by the National Sports Council. (KB)
