The best of Barbados’ skateboarders are coming together today to meet the rest of the region.
Competitors from the Caribbean, including Jamaica, Martinique and Guadeloupe, are set to descend on the hard courts at Dover, Christ Church, from noon to highlight a top field contesting the fifth edition of the Turbo Energy Drink One Movement Invitational Skateboard Contest.
Member of the Movement Skate Team, Adrian Bowen, revealed the level of attraction the competition had garnered during yesterday’s Press briefing at SMJ Beverages headquarters in Green Hill, St Michael.
“It’s good to have an opportunity like the One Movement skate contest because it gives local skateboarders a chance to continue to show their skills. And as a result of the contest becoming an annual competition we can see the definite growth in the skaters, the level of complexity of the tricks, the consistency of tricks,” said Bowen.
“The guys are just getting more comfortable skating and it’s as a result of having this competition every year so we can then push it to a level where these guys can see who’s the best in the region.
“Our aim is to make One Movement that event that people can look forward to and where they can see the talent in the Caribbean,” he added. (JM)
