No medals for Bajans at NACAC

With a fifth-place finish in the men’s 400 metres, Burkheart Ellis Jr was the highest-placing Barbadian at the recently concluded North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Championships in Kamloops, British Colombia.
After placing second in his semi-final heat in 47.28 seconds, Ellis lowered the time slightly to 47.10 in the final.
Brycen Spratling and Vernon Norwood of the United States took gold and bronze in 45.18 and 45.56 seconds, respectively. Grenada’s Bralon Taplin won the silver in 45.52.
Tristan Whitehall finished sixth in both the men’s shot put (16.36 metres) and discus (47.99m).
Willy Irwin of the United States won the shot put gold with 19.44 metres, compatriot Darrell Hill was second with 18.85 and Trinidad and Tobago’s Akeem Stewart third with 17.76m.
American Rodney Brown set a new championship record of 63.34m in the discus to take the gold medal. Teammate Tavis Bailey won silver with 57.37m and Canada’s Jordan Young the bronze medal with 53.42m.
Nicholas Deshong was eighth in the men’s 200m final, clocking 21.24 seconds.
Remonty McClain of the United States was first in 20.32 seconds (wind 1.5 metres per second), Trevana Mackey of The Bahamas was second in 20.46 and Jamaica’s Everton Clarke third in 20.51 seconds. (SAT)
