The annual European Film Festival will be screened from May 15 to 28 at the Olympus Theatres Sheraton.

The 29 films to be screened originate from 11 European Union Member States Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

EU Ambassador Daniela Tramacere said: “It gives me great pleasure for yet another year to be able to host the annual European Film Festival. It is fun to watch such a variety of movies. It is a treat not to be missed for the Bajan patrons …and for the expats as well! .”

The 11th European Film Festival is being held for two weeks to further enhance the viewing options of patrons, with most movies being scheduled for multiple viewings. Each weekday there are two screenings, at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., while on weekends screenings are at 3, 5 and 7 p.m.

An established event on the Barbadian culture calendar, the festival provides audiences with a unique opportunity to get a taste of Europe’s contemporary creativity and a window into the intriguing world of European cinema.

The genres for this year’s festival range from comedy, drama, crime to romance and documentaries and depict various aspects of European life and culture.

This year will also feature themed nights, for example, Thursdays are the nights for Thrillers, Fridays for Comedy, and Tuesdays for Drama. There are also animated movies for children which are scheduled for both weekends of the festival.

For the second successive year, Copacabana Beach Club is partnering with the EU and is having three screenings, which adds variety to the festival in a more relaxed beach setting.

All of the movies have English subtitles with the exception of the British film and the screenings are free to the public. (PR)
