THERE WILL BE a new challenge for the recent powerhouses in local youth football.
St Andrew-based team, SWB have joined the Barbados Soccer Academy (BSA) “A”, Empire and Pro Shottas “A” in the Under-17 semi-finals of the Barbados Football Association’s (BFA) Youth Tournament.
In last Saturday’s quarter-finals at Deighton Griffith School, SWB, a team comprising footballers from the St Simons, Walkers and Bawdens districts, upstaged the traditionally-strong Christ Church team, Gall Hill 3-1.
The BSA secured their berth by virtue of more accurate spot kicks, edging Ellerton 6-5 on penalties after the scores were locked 1-1 at the end of regulation time.
Pro Shottas “A” prevailed 2-1 in a hard-fought encounter with Notre Dame while Empire staved off the challenge of the Academy “B” team to win 3-2.
Pinelands, BSA, Pro Shottas “A” and Kick Start “A” also won their quarterfinals in the Under-13 age groups while Pro Shottas, Gall Hill, BSA?and Mavericks advanced to the semis in the Under-15 age category.
The Under-11 semifinalists are Kick Start “A”, Pro Shottas, Haynes and Kings Park. (EZS)
