Chelsea?Tuach continues to create big waves on the international surfing scene.
Competing last weekend in the National Scholastic Surfing Association’s West Coast Championships (NSSAC), Tuach finished second and third in the Explorer and the Open Women’s Divisions respectively.
In the Explorer Division, Tuach won her opening heat with two scores of seven and a five which catapulted her straight to the final while the others in her heat were relegated to the repecharge round.
In the preceding six-woman final, Tuach had scores of seven and 6.5 to finish second behind eventual winner, Frankie Harrar, with Tuach’s training mate Tia Blanco placing third.
She then had a similar standout performance in the early stages of the Open Women’s Division, dominating her quarter-final heat on the way to posting scores of 9.5 and 8.6, which earned her the award for Performer of the Day.
However, in the final, Blanco turned in an impressive performance to cop the top spot, with Hawaii standout surfer Moana Jones second and Tuach third. Malia Ostercamp rounded out the top four.
Tuach is currently in El Salvador training in the warm waters of Central America for the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships which is slated to be held from June 8 to 16 in Playa Jiquiliste, Nicaragua.
Representatives of Eastern Surf Magazine are in El Salvador filming Chelsea along with a few other top East Coast female surfers for a feature on the top female surfers from this region. (RB)
