“THIS IS A DOWNRIGHT DIRTY JOB. Look at my skin from head to toe – it mash up.”
This was the cry from a female in the Drainage Division of the Ministry of the Environment who was among a group of workers cleaning the drains along Pine East/West Boulevard on Thursday.
The workers, who chose to remain anonymous, complained about not receiving adequate protective clothing or immunizations, having to work in deplorable conditions, and experiencing difficulties getting allowances they were owed.
Explaining her skin condition, the worker, who has been with the division for almost four years, said that after numerous visits to medical professionals she was told she had ringworm fungal infections
Despite seeking treatment over the past few months, she said, the symptoms had persisted. She complained of dry patches on her chest, skin, legs and her entire scalp. (LK)
