Newly crowned?Mr Barbados Ramon Broomes will spearhead a 17-member team to compete at the 40th Central American And Caribbean (CAC) Championships in Puerto Rico tomorrow.
The 21-year-old Broomes will be competing in the light-middleweight division, while the experienced Hoskins Worrell, whom he edged to take the coveted title last month, is also included on the team.
A notable absence is that of Dorell Coulthurst, the 2012 Mr Bridgetown champion, who according to a Press release issued by the the Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (BABFF), was unavailable for selection.
Also gaining selection is Martinus Durrant, who will be stepping on stage for the second time since serving a two-year ban after a positive drug test at the 2009 CAC Championships in Grenada, where he lifted the light heavyweight title and overall crown.
Saskia Griffith, who was crowned the bikini fitness queen, will be representing Barbados in the bikini fitness competition.
This contest is being introduced at the games for the first time, along with the flyweight category for men (up to 60kg), men’s physique and men’s classic bodybuilding.
Griffith is among nine women in the team, which will be coached by Carl Moore and managed by BABFF president Dr Andrew Forde.
Former Barbados and West Indies “B” team wicketkeeper Michael Worrell is also in the side.
