Depression and a broken heart led 24-year-old Angel Taitt, a bride of only two months, to leap to her death from the top of a City building last Friday.
A note found on the deceased’s computer has reinforced this conclusion among grieving and distressed relatives.
One of her two sisters, Katrina Nicholls, told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday that Angel gave her the password to her computer in a conversation at their mother’s home at Denton Road, Grazettes, St Michael, shortly before the fatal leap from the City Centre car park.
“Angel said that her heart was broken and she just couldn’t put it back together any more,” Nicholls said, citing the computer note.
Nicholls said the family felt very upset about the many rumours that were circulating and decided to speak out. “Angel was going through a stage that I guess she thought she couldn’t get through. We had signs that she was going through stuff, never thinking that it would escalate to her doing this,” Yvette Gittens, 36, the other sister said.“She was telling us what she was going through in pieces. Now it has happened, we’re piecing together the broken pieces.” According to Gittens, the family knew that Angel’s marriage was crumbling.“It was evident that there were problems in the marriage. It ain’t nothing to pretend,” said Gittens, who stated that the last time she heard her sister was on Thursday and she gave her some sisterly advice.Angel slept at her mother’s house last Thursday night. Early Friday morning, her mother Janice Nicholls called on Katrina to come to her home “because things ain’t look too good with Angel”.Nicholls said when she got there, Angel was ready to leave, and indicated that she was going to the home she shared with her husband at Shorey Gap, Codrington Hill, St Michael. She refused her sister’s offer to accompany her and indicated she was “coming back now”. Nicholls said that later her mother got a call on her cellphone and started to cry. “I take the phone and she [Angel] said, ‘Sis I on a roof and I gine jump’. And I said, ‘Angel, how you mean you on a roof?’ “Then she say, ‘I love you, sis. Tell everybody else I love them . . . . Then she say, the Krystle that she gave me this morning is the password to her computer and it got a note to the family . . . she cut out the phone,” said Nicholls.Seconds later, another call came through. It was Angel’s adopted son’s father who stated that Angel just called him telling him “some stupidness” and that he on his way to Grazettes. The mother then received a call, notifying her of the tragic fall. They rushed to the scene.“She was living. She was down on the ground rolling. She was hollering for aye, aye,” said Nicholls. Angel died about an hour and a half later at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after being transported there by an ambulance.The family said they were also very upset that it took about an hour for an ambulance to arrive.
