Trinidad’s PM to visit Barbados

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, May 14, CMC – Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar will leave here on Tuesday for visits to Belize, Barbados and the United States.
A statement from the Office of the Prime Minister said that her visit to Belize will be to participate in two Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) events.
On Wednesday, she will launch the Canadian funded CAD$23.2 million (US$23.15 million) Caribbean Local Economic Development (CARILED) Programme that aims to strengthen local governance and to stimulate local economic growth throughout the region.  CARILED will be headquartered in Port of Spain.
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar will also participate in the CLGF Annual Board Meeting on Thursday before travelling to New York where she will deliver a statement at the UN High-Level Thematic Debate on “The State of the World Economy and Finance in 2012” on  May 18.
“In the margins of the Debate, the Prime Minister will also hold bilateral discussions with Executive-Director of UN Women Michelle Bachelet to identify opportunities for further collaboration between Trinidad and Tobago and UN Women,” the statement said, adding that she has also been invited to deliver the keynote address at New York University’s (NYU) Convocation Ceremony for the Graduating Class of 2012 LLM students.
From the United States, she will travel to Barbados to participate in a special Caribbean Community (CARICOM) meeting to discuss matters pertaining to the Caribbean Court of Justice on May 20. (CMC)
