THE DOOR REMAINS open for the Barbados Workers’ Union to be part of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) delegation to the 102nd International Labour Organization (ILO) conference in Geneva next June.
CTUSAB president Cedric Murrell said yesterday that while he was disappointed at the BWU’s reaction to secede from the umbrella congress over a perceived “snivelling attempt” to prevent it from further representing Barbados at the ILO, “no door is closed”.
He said it was “regretful” that CTUSAB’s decision to send one advisors from BWU, another from the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) and CTUSAB’s general secretary Dennis Depeiza as delegate did not find favour with all of its affiliates, particularly the BWU.
“We’re disappointed that stance would have been taken,” he said in response to the split announced by BWU general secretary Sir Roy Trotman last Friday.
