DLP COLUMN: Team DLP approach

At every Press occasion, branch meeting, nomination meeting, party church service, and at the Opposition office and Barbados Labour Party (BLP) headquarters, Owen Arthur is calling for healing.
At the party’s recent founders’ day service, a call for healing went out again. This facade must be carefully examined because we are convinced that Arthur is not keen on healing of any sort. It’s certain that Cynthia Forde has issued a non-participation edict for the next election.
We are predicting that Forde will give full support to Mia Mottley, but she will not appear on behalf of any of the Male Club members. Information reaching us reveals that she has not recovered from the attempt to get rid of her.
Arthur’s meeting with the branch was foiled as the Fordians stood firmly behind their woman. There is clear and present danger on the other side. Arthur is trying to make it seem as if Mia’s absence is not hurting him.
He has been successful in publicly dismantling her leadership interest. Arthur is back and he intends to do things a little differently as he muscles his way back into public discourse.
We have taken note of Mia’s absence from all of the nomination meetings as Arthur continues to take centre stage. The strategy of appearing to be united has been placed squarely on the agenda of the campaign team.
This team, led by British consultants, has been hard at work preparing statements and issuing comments on the blogs. The Opposition BLP remains committed to the programme of creating panic and fear.
This Democratic Labour Party Government has been calling for a team approach both at home and abroad. We feel that with the harsh global economic impact on our economy, partisan politics will have no place in finding solutions.
Our mission is not to engage political expediency but to seek out a policy agenda that pre-empts and responds to the current financial fallout.
Our Prime Minister and party leader Freundel Stuart has been very clear as he reinforces Government’s position.
In a recent address to Barbadians throughout the diaspora, he reminded all that there was no reason for Barbados to go to the International Monetary Fund. Our country’s fiscal position has improved.
Despite the screams of economic chaos, our country’s public sector continues to enjoy the benefits of employment without any political recrimination. We have made great strides in the areas of housing, education and health. These three areas are of no concern to the Opposition.
This country has had the benefit of witnessing the difference between the two political parties.
On the other side, the policy agenda of land reaching its highest economic value, underpinned by a desire to see a car in front of every house, became the economic model for development.
This Stuart-led Government fully accepts responsibility for restructuring the economy and placing people at the centre. There can be no doubt that the period under review has elevated the Democratic Labour Party as the party with a people-centred policy agenda.
Barbadians, we will not abandon the society in the quest to build an economy. Our mission is to ensure that through the building of a society, people have a say in their future. We are committed to securing a better Barbados for all!
