DEAR CHRISTINE: Feels like home in Barbados

Dear Christine,
Greetings and best wishes in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! I hope my mail reaches you all the way from Canada.
I recently returned home after spending two beautiful weeks in your country. It was my fifth visit to Barbados and I must admit that your country is beautiful. Over the years my wife and I have enjoyed all that Barbados has to offer.
Whenever we visit we make it a point to attend church, visit Harrison’s Cave, take a bus ride to the beautiful, scenic East Coast of the island, go on a safari tour, visit Oistins fish fry, go on a catamaran cruise and, of course, eat at the island’s restaurants and swim in the ocean. We always, always enjoy our stay, and during the past ten years since coming to Barbados we have never had any bad experiences.
We always return home with wonderful memories and we never hesitate to tell our friends and family back home just how wonderful Barbados is.
Apart from all the fun we have, it is virtually impossible not to mention the people on the island. In my mind Barbadians are great hosts and they never fail to help you when you are lost; say “good morning” “good evening” or “good night” and when you’ve become friends with a Barbadian, it is not unusual for them to invite you to their homes.
We usually stay at various hotels, as we are still in our exploration stage, and we’ve vacationed in hotels on the South Coast and West Coast as well.
One of the reasons why my wife and I wanted to pen this letter was to let Barbadians know they have a good thing going on the island and to encourage hotel workers  keep on doing a good job. We have travelled to other Caribbean destinations, but honestly, there is no place like being ”home” in your beautiful island.
We always read THE NATION newspaper online and never miss this column. This is one of the reasons why I’ve written my letter through your column. My wife and I just want to say, “Barbados we love you.”

Friends of Barbados, your letter is most refreshing and I thank you for taking time out to let Barbadians at large know just how you feel about our island. I am certain that those directly and indirectly employed in the tourism industry appreciate it very much. Continue to read THE NATION online and maybe next time you’re in the island, you can pay a visit to THE NATION’s offices at Fontabelle.  God bless you also!
