Have hope!

While acknowledging that the Barbados economy is “far from healthy”, Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave is advising Bajans to “look forward with hope for better days”.
This was one of the principal themes of his Christmas message to the country, coming just days before about 3 000 public servants are set to lose their jobs in a plan by Government to cut its expenses in the face of a continued decline in revenue.
At the same time, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart in his message told Barbadians not to approach Christmas with less than their usual excitement, enthusiam or hope since others have it worse in other parts of the world, while Opposition Leader Mia Mottley told Barbadians “there will be a brighter tomorrow”.
“This year’s Christmas comes at a time of great challenge for Barbados,” said Stuart. “Over the last few months in particular our economy has been facing increasing pressures which have necessitated our putting in place a suite of measures to guarantee its stability.
