The last weekend before Christmas and from early Saturday, shoppers were already moving around Bridgetown in a hurried morning dash to beat the last-minute crush.
However, those crossing the Chamberlain Bridge had their movements temporarily halted as the wail of a siren signalled the lifting of the bridge to accommodate a vessel passing through from its berth in the Inner Basin of the Careenage. Once a swing bridge separating the inner and outer basins of the Careenage, the old bridge was replaced with a more modern lift bridge in 2006.
Here, the group of shoppers and tourists wait, all eyes focused on the fully upraised bridge. (GC)
