AN AUDIENCE comprising locals and tourists filled the area of the Richard Haynes Boardwalk in Hastings, Christ Church on Saturday night for St Matthias’ annual Christmas On The Boardwalk.
The free event, in its third year, is a joint effort between the St Matthias Community Association and St Matthias Anglican Church, to give back to the community for the Christmas season.
This year accounting firm KPMG joined as one of the major sponsors.
“This year we are very pleased to have KPMG on board . . . who were most pleased and eager to ensure that they, as a corporate entity, give back to the community,” said Peter Barrow, vice-chairman of the association.
Both Barrow and Brenda Pope, partner and advisory consultant at KPMG, said that the success of the event was due to its timing and variety.
“Barbadians like to feel the spirit of Christmas in all its forms. In music, dance, art, all of which we provide when we put on this event,” said Barrow.
“I think the other reason it is successful is because it’s held right in the community where locals and tourists can just stop be, relax and enjoy things Barbadiana and the feeling of fellowship experienced around Christmas time,” Pope said.
The Royal Barbados Police Force Band, Ace Worx Steelpan Ensemble, Arthur Smith Primary School Choir, Dayrells Road Gospel Hall Choir, Inside Out dance group, Ruk-a-Tuk International, singer Shakila Stoute and the St Matthias Church Steel Orchestra were among those performing. (SM)
