Outgoing president of the Caribbean Court of Justice, (CCJ) Michael?de la Bastide lauded his successor Sir Dennis Byron’s appointment, as he introduced him to members of various Caribbean media during a video link Press conference today.
Of the president designate’s appointment, Bastide said that he had “the experience and the talent” that would enable him to assist and to lead the court to achieve its full potential.
“I feel very confident that under his leadership the court will continue to go from strength to strength and will achieve its place as the highest court of appeal for most if not all the courts of Caricom. That is what I hope for and indeed pray for,” he said.
Bastide maintained that the CCJ afforded Caribbean people the opportunity “to take charge of their own jurisprudence”.
