Case clean-up

CHIEF JUSTICE Sir Marston Gibson has warned that he will shortly start throwing out old cases.
He said that lawyers were hardly responding to deadline notices issued by the court since February 1 in an effort to clear the backlog of cases going back to the 1990s.
He told the SUNDAY SUN he wanted to give all parties “some time” to respond as the measures he was about to take were “drastic”.
Sir Marston explained that he had issued the February directive in view of cases which were in the system between 1990 and 2009. He noted that notices had been sent out regarding cases from 1990 and 1991.
However, the responses had merely been “trickling in”, he admitted.
