Sir Courtney: Don’t privatize

Former Central Bank Governor Sir Courtney Blackman is against putting certain state agencies into private hands.
Weighing in on the debate on government divestment of some of its entities, Sir Courtney told the DAILY NATION: “There is no certainty that because you turn something over to the private sector it is going to be more efficient.
“I don’t think the seaport or the airport should be owned by foreign people. I am not so fussy about it being owned by the private sector either.”
Neither did he think the Transport Board should be privately owned, arguing it was an “essential” service and insisting there was nothing wrong with the government running it. (GC)
