That person with a weed-whacker or a paint brush and a ladder might not be ‘legit’. In fact, said one magistrate, those people may be cutting the grass of one house, while sizing up another for breaking and homeowners should be aware of this.
The comments came in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court from Magistrate Douglas Frederick as he dealt with one of two young burglars, caught red-handed in a man’s house, who claimed he was actually a painter and a landscaper.
Shamar Jamal Marshall, 25, of St Michael, and Dario Devon “Scooby” Drayton, 21, also of St Michael, were back in court yesterday for sentencing after they had pleaded guilty to entering Orland Roett’s house, on April 4, this year, and stealing a bag and other items worth $2 600. Both have previous convictions for similar offences.
It was Marshall, who had been called upon by Magistrate Frederick to say “something” about himself, who revealed he worked as a freelance painter and as a landscaper with a company.
