Driven to succeed

Oftentimes we hear “it’s not the school you attend, but rather what you do when you get there”. This is especially true for 25-year-old Dwight Moseley.

Dwight, a former student of Parkinson Memorial, was called to the Bar last October 26 after attending the Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago. Prior to that, he attended the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree. He also studied law and politics at the Barbados Community College after gaining ten CXCs at Parkinson.

Dwight told EASY magazine the day he passed the Bar the feeling he had was one he would never forget.

“It was an amazing feeling especially coming from where I came from. I know people don’t expect that much from people who went to Parkinson. It’s not often looked at for academics so it was a really amazing feeling being called to the Bar. Past students and teachers really rallied around me and I know I made the school proud,” he said.

But getting there was by no means easy. Dwight moved to Barbados from Guyana when he was 11 years old, having just sat the Common Entrance Examination in that country.

He said the news that he would be attending Parkinson did not sit well with him at the time. He said, however, he quickly realised it was a good school. (DB)
