Homes are being broken into more than ever.
Last year, there were more 1 500 residential burglaries and according to Commissioner of Police, Darwin Dottin, many of these crimes were perpetrated by repeat offenders.
At a press conference this morning at his Roebuck Street office, Dottin said there were 1 570 residential burglaries last year, a 14 per cent increase on 2009 when there were 1375.
Before an audience that included senior police officers, Emmerson Moore, Seymour Cumberbatch and Morgan Greaves, Dottin said property crime was responsible for 17 per cent of all reported crime last year.
What is significant for us and we are going to have do a lot fo work on this is that 55 per cent of them are repeat burglars” he said.
