The embattled chairman of the Antigua & Barbuda Electoral Commission Sir Gerald Watt was today removed from the helm to make way for retired educator Juno Samuel.
Samuel has confirmed to the Caribbean Media Corporation (CMC) that he has taken the oath of office before Governor General Dame Louise Lake-Tack.
The move came as a surprise to many, as there was no prior announcement of the change.
Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer was not available for comment as he is in parliament attending the budget debate.
Calls to Sir Gerald have gone unanswered but CMC understands that he will now sit as an ordinary member of the commission.
Nathaniel “Paddy” James will remain deputy chairman while Jack Kelsick will stay on as a governing party-appointed member. Anthonyson King, who served as a temporary commissioner, is tipped to be nominated by the opposition. (CMC)
