STAPLE GROVE and St David’s, Christ Church have become a busy construction zone with major projects in progress.
In Staple Grove, a new building housing Dunamis Outreach Ministries  of the Wesleyan Holiness Church is now awaiting a roof.
In a telephone interview yesterday, the pastor Reverend Carlos Brathwaite said the roof should be on by next month.
“We are at the stage where we are about to reinforce the ring beams to receive the roof, which hopefully will be in place by February. Once that happens, everything else will be pretty straightforward,” he said.
Brathwaite said work was “fairly advanced” in the back area of the proposed multipurpose building, where the bathrooms were located, with water and electricity installed and the floor cast.
He said the first phase of the construction – that of the sanctuary – should be completed by “the last quarter of the year” at a cost of $1.5 million.
“We are not ready yet for phase two.
It will be a multipurpose building with offices, a day nursery and conference facilities,” he said.
Also under construction is the Staple Grove Primary School. Site manager Karsten Westphalen of Kent Construction said workers had started placing the roof and were finishing the courtyard and a part of the foundation.
He said what remained was to place the windows and to paint.
The third project in the area is the new People’s Cathedral at St David’s.
That is expected to be very extensive when it gets fully under way. (CA)
