A DEFIANT UNBEATEN 127 by LIME’s opener Randy Thomas overshadowed a haul of seven for 96 from 27.3 overs by Police’s off-spinner Jason Smith, as LIME were in a prime position to secure their second consecutive win of the 2010 Division One cricket championship.
At stumps on Day 2, Police, faced with a deficit of 110 on first innings, were reeling at 98 for six. Larry Babb smashed 53 from 65 balls with five fours and three huge sixes, but was one of three wickets that fell towards the close. Corey Edwards has taken three for 35.
Earlier, resuming from an overweek 96 for one, LIME were eventually dismissed for 243 in reply to Police’s 133 all out. Thomas began on 54 and Aubrey Towler eight. LIME quickly lost the wickets of Towler for ten and Ashley Nurse, who was lbw to Smith, for five.
After a fluent start, Thomas spent close to an hour in the nervous 90s. Eventually he reached his century with a single to mid-wicket off Babb. It came in 250 minutes from 206 deliveries and contained seven fours and one six.
He put on 39 for the fifth wicket with Courtney Browne, who lashed 28 including two fours and one six from 38 balls.
Smith’s figures included six for 67 from 19.3 overs yesterday as LIME folded from 191 for four, losing their last six wickets for 52 runs. Smith took the last five wickets after he switched to the southern end, with none of the batmen reaching double-figures.
