Big boost for Barbados with rum deal

Barbados is set to get a much needed boost in economic activity following the signing of an agreement between Foursquare Rum Distillery and one of the world’s leading wine and spirits groups.
At a time when many manufacturers are struggling to remain competitive, chairman Sir David Seale announced today that the island could gain in excess of $100 million in foreign exchange over the next five years as his company had inked a deal with Moet Hennessy of France to distill, blend and bottle the 10 Cane brand of rum.
Speaking during a media briefing at the St Philip plant, Sir David said the spirit was previously being distilled, blended and bottled in Trinidad and Tobago.
“It is a recognition, really, that our distillery which was named the Distillery Of The Year in 2010, is now being recognized throughout the world as a world class facility,” he said.
