LED?BY?A?sensible innings of 111 not out by opener Nkrumah Bonner, the Sagicor West Indies High Performance Centre (HPC) duly completed a 3-0 series win as they again outplayed the Bangladesh ‘A’ team at the Desmond Haynes Oval yesterday.
In the third and final 50-over cricket match of the series, the HPC, set 222 for victory, reached their target, making 225 for four off 44.4 overs.
Man-of-the-Match Bonner, who has been steadily reaching peak form, looked in control from the outset. He and fellow opener Andre Fletcher wasted no time in attacking the Bangladesh ‘A’ bowlers. They were associated in an opening partnership of 98 with Bonner reaching his 50 off 61 deliveries including five fours and one six. Fletcher, who was equally aggressive, was first to be dismissed, caught by wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan off pacer Farhad Reza for 39 (three sixes, one four, 59 balls).
But Bonner continued on his merry way to steer his side to victory. His knock included eight fours and two sixes and came off 128 deliveries.
Earlier, after Bangladesh ‘A’ won the toss and batted, they were restricted to 221 all out off 44.4 overs.
They were led by a knock of 66 from Shuvogoto Hom, whose innings included seven fours off 69 deliveries.
The next best scorer was wicketkeeper/batsman Hasan, who got 45 off 46 balls.
Hom also got assistance from captain Naeem Islam (33) as the two were associated in a fourth-wicket partnership of 77 runs.
However, after both were dismissed, wickets fell steadily through some fine bowling seamers Carlos Brathwaite (3-13) and Johnathan Carter (3-17).
Attention now switches to the two-match
Twenty20 series starting at Kensington Oval, tomorrow at 2 p.m.
