Shontelle may have garnered many successes since kicking off her international career, but it still brings a smile to her face to know the how much love her musical “baby” Colours still received.
The patriotic Party Monarch-winning tune was sung nine years ago by Natahlee, and featured Shontelle. Alison Hinds’ perennial hit, Roll, was also written by Shontelle the same year.
“I get really emotional when I hear [Colours] come on. People use it a lot for backing music for stuff and that means it is still alive,” she told WEEKEND BUZZ in an interview recently.
A 10th anniversary celebration might be in the works, and perhaps some songs for Crop Over 2014?
“You never know. Strange things happen . . . that’s all I am gonna say!” the Battle Cry songbird replied with a flirty smile.
The singer/songwriter did reveal, however, that she would make “her greatest effort to be here” for the festival.
“I got a little taste of it last year and my friends went to carnival and they haven’t gotten off of that high as yet. They are already in Crop Over mode. I am loving the Zulu costumes, and the music is gonna be so good,” she gushed.
“I wanna jump so bad, since I haven’t in years. . . [But] it is so weird because a part of me wishes and hopes I can be here, but . . . you [also] hope you can’t make it because it means that you are busy and. . . have good reason to not be available. Summer is always a high point for entertainment because that is when you generate the most money [along with] Christmas and you want to capitalise on that so if I am in Barbados partying, I am not anywhere else working.”
But some things are worth the effort, she believed: “Sometimes you just need to . . . put work to sleep and rock on.” (LW)
