Pressure is on

Workers will be on edge and unions will feel the pressure over the next few weeks as more job cuts loom.

The fresh bout of layoffs is following on from last year’s retrenchment of workers from central Government as part of the International Monetary Fund programme and are now directed at the state-owned enterprises.

The layoff alarm has been sounded at almost every turn from the Barbados Labour Party Administration, the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU)  and the other major trade union, the National Union of Public Workers, as well as the economic experts. (AC)
