AS TUITION fees loom for Barbadian students studying at the Cave Hill campus come August, the administration held a tuition finance fair on its grounds yesterday.
Lending agencies, banks, credit unions and insurance companies used the occasion to showcase their options for loans to continuing and new students.
Dr Donley Carrington, lecturer in accounting and chairman of the sub-committee which had been tasked with looking at options for funding for students, said the purpose of the fair was to bring the financial institutions “to a central location where we invite our current students and prospective students to come in and meet” with them.
The students were educated about deferred payment plans and other choices and were able to compare and contrast the different interest rates offered by the range of institutions.
“The basic purpose was to get the students here to meet with the personnel (from the financial institutions) to ensure that they will have the funds available to pay for their tuition for Semester 1 for Academic year 2014/15.”
Carrington noted the tuition fair was being held at the same time as the campus orientation for new students. As a result, he said the booths received a number of prospective students.
The event continues today at the Cave Hill campus. (HLE)
