A fund-raising drive by FirstCaribbean International Bank to donate much-needed school supplies to four primary schools has culminated in a painting project at one of those schools.
As part of the bank’s Adopt-A-Cause programme, members of the Regional Processing Centre downed tools and picked up paint cans and brushes on Saturday to brighten up one of the nursery classrooms at Welches Primary School, St Thomas.
Last year the eight units in the bank’s Barbados Business Centre, including the Regional Processing Centre, mounted a “Jeans Drive”, where staff wore jeans to work on Fridays and contributed $10 each time to a fund.
After two months, the drive had raised enough money to purchase exercise books, Bristol boards, markers, crayons, wall charts, paints, masking tape, copy paper and other items.
When members of the Regional Processing Centre made the presentation of items to Welches Primary School they informed the school of the bank’s Adopt-A-Cause programme.
The school communicated its need to have two nursery rooms painted and the staff at the centre volunteered to assist. About 12 members of the team gathered to paint, along with a parent of one of the pupils.
Donna Springer, operations manager at the bank, noted that the project went well and that the members of the Regional Processing Centre were excited about helping the community, especially those who were doing so for the first time.
Merline Padmore, principal of Welches Primary, offered sincere thanks to the bank on behalf of the children and staff of the school.
