Dear Christine,
This is to the priest [who last week spoke openly about the way people are dressing when attending funerals]. Let him know that I am with him 100 per cent.
I am also in agreement with Yogi Ni [who shared his views online].
Here in the United States, I’m forever defending my people against other islanders who call us stupid.
When they read these idiotic comments, I know I’ll have to hide my face and close my mouth.
To the Reverend Curtis Goodridge: Stand your ground. I don’t have anything against the young people. I was once young too.
However, the young people of today are lacking in respect for their teachers, homes, and anywhere they congregate.
That’s because children are having children and there is no guidance in the homes. Children are running the homes and parents are just going along with the programme.
The world as we know it is messed up; nothing will change if we keep our mouths shut. Thank you, Sir, for voicing your opinions. It’s about time someone speaks up!
I’m appalled at some of the comments, which were made at you. Maybe, these people’s children are among that disrespectful group!
What has happened to those days when respect was shown to the pastors, teachers, policemen, neighbours, and everyone else in between?
One person made references to another country’s dress code. What does that have to do with Barbados?
Visitors liked us because of the way we carried ourselves. When did we start following everyone else? I probably missed the memo, because I am still dressing in black and white for funerals.
As a matter of fact I would feel naked if I didn’t!
If we are not careful, next would be the schools.
Be leaders, not followers!
Go find the pride we once had – dressing [appropriately] for church, work, parties, home and miscellaneous.
That’s what’s in my closet!
– E.M.
Dear E.M.,
Your letter speaks for itself and should open the eyes of those who do not understand that there is a time and place for everything.
Thanks for sharing.
– CHRISTINE
