Springer, Lester Vaughan in the lead

THE TOP TWO title contenders have already gone to the front at the end of the first day’s finals of the Powerade Barbados Secondary Schools’ Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
The challenge will be to hold on.
Perennial champions Springer Memorial lead the girls with 30 points, followed by The St Michael School and Harrison College on 26 and 12, respectively. Combermere are fourth on ten.
The Lester Vaughan School hold a slim lead among the boys with 13 points, one more than Queen’s College. The St Michael School and Frederick Smith (formerly St James Secondary) round out a very tight top four with 11 and ten points, respectively.
After the hurdles in the morning session, the day’s programme continued with heats in the 400 metres for the Under-17 and Under-20 athletes; the 15 00 metres and the intermediate hurdles. (SAT)
