The Barbados Christian Council is concerned about the recent escalation in crime in this country.
Chairman Monsignor Vincent Blackett in a statement today said: “We have heard the cry of many victims as they come to the church seeking support and asking that a stop be put to the criminal activities that are causing great fear and anxiety amongst peaceful law abiding citizens and visitors to our shores.
“We have also heard the call of the Attorney General for the Churches and other agencies to come on board to help in the battle against crime.”
The Council assured all Barbadians that the Church stands ready to assist.
Recognising that the crime situation requires the effort of all Barbadians, the statement noted that the Church is inviting Government and Non-Governmental Agencies to join in the quest for ways to respond in meaningful ways to the present crisis.
“We have set the date for the end of August and we look forward to constructive and meaningful conversation. In the mean time we ask all the Churches in Barbados to pray for peace in the Nation and to organize days of prayer in your communities”.
