THERE WASN’T ANY doubt this time.
The second time proved the charm as leg-spinner Asa Hutchinson grabbed four wickets before Nimar Bowen hit a polished unbeaten 34 to lead former champs Bayleys to a comfortable nine-wicket victory over Milton Lynch in a replay of their Guardian General Herman Griffith Primary Schools’ cricket quarter-final at Bank Hall.
It was a far different story from last week’s thriller, where Milton Lynch were originally awarded the match on fast run rate after 20 overs after both teams played to a dramatic tie at the same venue.
But the rules made no provision to determine a winner in the event of a tie in a knockout game, thus forcing yesterday’s replay. And Bayleys wasted no time in taking advantage of that reprieve as Hutchinson struck early and often in limiting Milton Lynch to 86 for eight off their 25 overs.
Bolden then led from the front to send Bayleys home with little cause for concern in a reply of 89 for one. Bayleys have advanced to play reigning kings Wesley Hall in Tuesday’s semi-final at Dover.
Summarised scores:
Milton Lynch 86-8 (G. Mayers 16, E. Welch 15; A. Hutchinson 4-14, J. Straughn 2-6). Bayleys 89-1 (N. Bolden 34 n.o., R. Mayers-Alleyne 13).
Bayleys won by nine wickets.
