Mixed report on Barbados from US

The United States State Department has painted a mixed bag of progress in Barbados’ fight against human trafficking, child prostitution, forced labour and abuse of Caribbean immigrants.
Washington’s latest report on human trafficking stated that Barbados, like its neighbours, did not comply with “the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking” and was rated a Tier 2 nation, meaning it was not among the best but also wasn’t on the list of the world’s worst.
“Barbados is a source and destination country for men, women and children subjected to sex trafficking and forced labour,” the State Department said in its 2014 report to Congress.
“Authorities and NGOs report foreign women have been forced into prostitution in Barbados. Foreigners have been subjected to forced labour in Barbados, most notably in domestic service, agriculture and construction.
