Move on bullying

The mother of a five-year-old victim of bullying is not only moving ahead with plans to take legal action against authorities, but is mobilizing support to pressure Parliament into passing a resolution proclaiming zero tolerance of the practice.
The St Philip woman, whose daughter’s hand was broken in two places when she fell trying to escape a bully at school just over a month ago, said she had already garnered over 2 000 signatures on a petition circulated across Barbados.
She told the SUNDAY SUN she wanted to get about 10 000 signatures on the petition to present it to the Ministry of Education at the start of the new school term.
“I am seeking a parliamentary motion that there be zero tolerance across the country to this problem of bullying. My daughter’s situation is just one of the many horrific stories I have heard from parents of children across Barbados,” said the mother, who began her mission three weeks ago.
