BARBADOS, led by a fine spell of medium pace swing bowling from Shakeel Turney and half-centuries by Danny Chesham and Leniko Boucher, were well poised to defeat Jamaica in their first-round West Indies Under-15 cricket match in St Kitts yesterday.
Jamaica, who were routed for a paltry 94 in their first innings, were reeling on 87 for six batting a second time – just five runs on with only four wickets in hand when play ended on the first day of the two-match encounter at Warner Park.
Barbados had raced to 176 for five from the 40 overs allotted in the first innings, with Chesham striking eight fours in the top score of 63 off 79 balls. Boucher made 53 off 95 balls with four fours.
But the day belonged to Turney, who took three wickets for nine runs off six overs in Jamaica’s first innings and was even more devastating in the second innings, already bagging four for 22 in nine overs. Off-spinner Hasani Newton had the fine figures of three wickets for two runs in three overs in Jamaica’s first innings.
