RECONCILIATION is necessary today in the Church of Jesus Christ. Like Jacob and Esau were reconciled to each other, members of the Church need to be reconciled one with the other.
In addition, the Church must get desperate [to see what is wrong made right]. Instead of following the ways of the world and doing what is “politically correct,” it must stand up for what is right.
Just as Jacob was desperate when he wrestled with the angel all night to receive the blessing from the Lord (Genesis 32: 24-29) the Church must position itself to pay the price it must pay in order to impact the community.
Preaching at Calvary Temple, The Crane, St Philip, last Sunday, Reverend Wayne Webster likened the Church of Jesus Christ to Jacob’s wrestling with the angel of God – not willing to let go until he received the blessing of the Lord.
Stating that these are wicked days in which we are living, Webster stressed that without the “full blessing of the Lord” the Church cannot be a blessing to the wider world.
He reasoned that when Jacob finally got the blessing he wrestled so hard to receive, he was saved from the peril of his brother Esau; he was delivered from fear, delivered from a great wrong and his relationship with Esau was healed.
The pastor noted that after Jacob’s wrestling and eventual blessing he was given a new name – that of Israel – “and was now under a new and fresh anointing.”
He said like Jacob, in order to receive the blessings of God we must be in the right place – a place of humble confessing, a place of pleading, a place of communion with God and a place of conscious weakness.
“If you want to receive the blessing from God you must learn the secret of prompt obedience,” he told the packed sanctuary.
“When God says to do something we must do it immediately.”
He added that for anyone to find that place of blessing there must also be genuine repentance where God is allowed to do what he wants to with and in our lives.
“The result of one man [Jacob] wrestling with God to get the blessing of his life [resulted] in a wonderful reconciliation with his brother Esau. [Let the Church be reconciled], Webster concluded.
Communion was served during the two-hour long service which resonated with much praise and worship.
