ROSEAU – Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit will lead a delegation to the United States later this month for talks on the construction of a new cruise ship and cargo port for the island.
Skerrit, winding up debate on the EC$1.02 billion budget debate in the Parliament on Friday night, said that he intends to travel to Miami “in the next two weeks” to begin the negotiations on the projects which he said would contribute significantly to the island’s socio-economic development.
“We spoke here about building the new cruise port and the new cargo port and as a matter of fact in the next two weeks I am going to Florida to meet with the developers and to meet with the financiers, Madam Speaker,” Skerrit said.
He said he is also expected to meet with representatives of the cruise lines and that his delegation would include the 22-year old Lorenzo Sanford, who was elected late last month Chief of the Kalinago Reserve where the island’s indigenous people reside
“We intend to carve out this special arrangement for the Kalinago (Carib) people,” he said. (CMC)
