Alexandra School Principal Jeff Broomes admitted he did not consult with department heads when hiring temporary teachers.
That is according to former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Bruce Alleyne, who recalled during his evidence-in-chief yesterday before the Commission of Inquiry into the school’s industrial dispute that Broomes admitted this at a meeting of all the relevant parties in 2010.
The meeting was to thrash out Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) complaints that, among other things, Broomes had recruited temporary teachers without consultation with the heads of Alexandra’s various departments.
According to Alleyne, the law required a principal to carry out such consultation, and he knew “for fact” that this was not done by Broomes.
