Teacher glut

People interested in joining the teaching profession have been urged to look outside of Barbados for jobs since the number of applicants is far outstripping the number of teachers retiring.
“Don’t see Barbados as your only space . . . . There is room to expand beyond our shores,” Minister of Education Ronald Jones told prospective teachers.
Jones was speaking at the opening ceremony of for 2012-2013 academic year at the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College and orientation for students in the Teachers’ Introduction, Diploma in Education (Primary & Secondary) and Certificate in Educational Management and Administration programmes.
He said the teaching profession was one in high demand and even though between 2008 and 2020 a lot of teachers would be leaving the system, they did not retire all at once but over a period of time. (LK/SR)
