A TRAINING STINT at the famous AC Milan club is on the cards for a number of promising young Barbadian footballers.Manager of the local Pro-Shottas youth outfit Greg Castagne made this revelation after receiving confirmation from Eddie Marles of AC Milan Americas that the Italian Series A side would be staging a youth soccer camp in Barbados in October. The decision to come to Barbados for the camp, which is slated for October 18 to 22, was made after Pro-Shottas’ impressive performance in the AC Milan Continental Cup in Cleveland, Ohio earlier this month. At that tournament, the Pro-Shottas reached the semi-finals in both the Under-14 and Under-16 age categories. After the exciting Under-16 semi-final in which Pro-Shottas lost on penalty kicks to Ajax, Marles expressed an interest in having the AC Milan Youth Camp originally planned for next year, brought forward to October. An excited Castagne told NATIONSPORT that plans were already afoot with local major sponsors to co-host the AC Milan Youth Camp for players in the 10-12 and 13-16 age groups. He noted that even though the majority of the players would be from the Pro Shottas club, he would be making plans with the local association to ensure other talented local youth footballers benefited from this exposure.“While only a couple players would be selected for possible stints at AC Milan in Italy, there would be opportunities for others to play at the Continental Cup next year as guest players in the respective age categories being targeted by AC Milan scouts,” he said.Castagne appealed to corporate Barbados to support the camp and said he would also be approaching both the Barbados Football Association and the National Sports Council for assistance as Marles indicated that once successful, AC Milan was prepared to make it an annual event.
